Judge Victoria Dyachkova of the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow fined Open Russia coordinator Alina Danilina 10 thousand rubles because of an action in support of those involved in the New Greatness case. This was reported by OVD-Info lawyer Ekaterina Selezneva, who represented the interests of the activist.
Danilina was found guilty of violating the rules of participation in a public event (Part 5 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code).
The coordinator of “Postcard” was charged with participating in the picket line that took place on July 16 near the FSB building on Lubyanka.
- On July 16, a rally was held in the center of Moscow in support of the defendants in the “New Greatness” case, for whom the prosecution had asked for time limits the day before. At least 17 people were detained near the FSB building; they were taken in two paddy wagons to the Meshchansky police station. The interests of activists in the department were represented by lawyer from OVD-Info Sergei Telnov. Around midnight, the police released the last detainees from the police department.
- In mid-March 2018, members of the previously unknown “New Greatness” movement were detained and then arrested in Moscow. They were charged with organizing and participating in the activities of an extremist community (Part 1 and Part 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code). Lawyers for the accused pointed out that the movement appeared with the active participation of embedded intelligence officers. On August 6, 2020, the court found some of the defendants guilty under the article on organizing the activities of an extremist community (Part 1 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code), three were given actual sentences of 6 to 7 years in prison.
