
In Minsk, the ceremony of Alexander Lukashenko entered the post of President of the Republic of Belarus for a new five -year term. This was reported by the BelTA State Agency. The inauguration was prepared secretly, the date was not reported in advance. However, this morning the center of Minsk was blocked, the city noticed military equipment and the army.
According to BelTA, in the Palace of Independence, Lukashenko made an oath in Belarusian and received the presidential certificate from the chairman of the Central Election Commission Lydia Ermoshina.
The ceremony was allegedly attended by several hundred people. Including - officials, deputies, media leaders, science, culture and sports. Earlier, the presidential spokesman promised to announce the date of the inauguration before the ceremony itself, but this did not happen.
At 10 a.m. on September 23, the ambassadors, including the head of the Russian diplomatic mission about the inauguration appointed on September 23, were not heard, reports TUT.BY.
Lukashenko took office against the backdrop of mass protests.
The election of the Belarusian president was held on August 9. The opposition did not recognize the results of the vote. Mass protests began in the country. Protesters accuse the authorities of unprecedented falsifications of voting results and in cruelty to the participants in rallies.
At least four people were killed when suppressing protests, six are listed as missing, more than 100 protesters were injured. The exact number of those arrested is still unknown, but the score goes on thousands.
Many leaders of the Belarusian opposition have forced to leave the country due to the threat of persecution by the authorities. Some opposition are arrested.
Lukashenko’s victory was not previously recognized by some countries of the European Union and deputies of the European Parliament.
