A person involved in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case in Tatarstan disappeared from IK-3 in the Samara region

The person involved in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case in Tatarstan, Rinat Khannanov, disappeared from colony IK-3 in the Samara region. This was reported to OVD-Info by his father Rishat Khannanov. Rishat has been trying to get through to the administration of the colony for the past three weeks, but he was not provided with any information about his son's whereabouts.

One of the employees of the correctional colony said that the convict was transferred to the pre-trial detention center, but did not explain the purpose of this transfer. Relatives of Rinat Khannanov fear that this was done for the purpose of criminal prosecution and pressure to get him to testify against other people.

October 9th. On October 8, Rinat Khannanov was able to get through to his father and said that he had been placed in a ShIZO . Rishat Khannanov told OVD-Info about this. He noted that the reason for placing his son in a punishment cell was far-fetched, and the colony officer, who told about the transfer, deliberately misled him.

• Rinat Khannanov and six other people were detained on October 17, 2017. A criminal case was initiated against them under the article on organizing the activities of a terrorist organization and participating in the activities of such an organization (Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code). On April 26, 2019, Khannanov was sentenced to 13 years in a strict regime colony under the article on participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code). Two more people, whom the court considered participants, were also sentenced to 13 years, two alleged organizers - to 18 years. Two more people were transferred to the status of witnesses.
• Hizb ut-Tahrir is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. In this regard, criminal cases are initiated in different regions of the country, while the defendants are sentenced to various terms in a strict regime colony only on the basis that they met in apartments, read religious literature and spread their ideas. According to a number of experts, Hizb ut-Tahrir was unlawfully recognized as a terrorist organization, since its members in Russia did not prepare or carry out terrorist acts.
