Facebook will remove "any content" about Holocaust denial and distorted facts about it, the social network said in a statement.
In addition, from the end of 2020, users who search Facebook for “terms related to the Holocaust or its denial” will be redirected by the platform “to reliable information.”
The company made the decision based on "a documented increase in anti-Semitism around the world" and also because of "an alarming level of ignorance about the Holocaust, especially among young people."
Facebook cites a survey in which a quarter of the participants considered the Holocaust a myth or an exaggeration. The survey, according to the social network, was conducted among US residents aged 18-39 years.
on his page Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said that, on the one hand, he defends freedom of speech, on the other hand, he is aware of the “damage caused by denial or distortion of facts about the Holocaust.”
“Given the current state of the world, I believe we struck the right balance,” Zuckerberg wrote.
