The military court extended the preventive measure for three defendants in the Belogorsk Hizb ut-Tahrir case

The Southern District Military Court extended the detention of three defendants in the Belogorsk Hizb ut-Tahrir case, Rize and Enver Omerov and Ayder Dzhepparov, for three months. It is reported by "Crimean solidarity".

The defense asked to choose a preventive measure not related to deprivation of liberty. According to lawyers, Enver Omerov needs surgical intervention, and being in a pre-trial detention center aggravates his health. The prosecutor, despite the positive characteristics, documents confirming that the defendants in the case have a permanent job, place of residence and dependent young children, asked the court to extend the detention of Crimeans in the pre-trial detention center for three months. He motivated this by the previous grounds - allegedly by the possibility of hiding from the court and damaging the evidence.

The court extended the arrest of all three defendants in the case, as the prosecutor demanded, until January 15, 2021.

In June 2019, were carried out mass searches at the premises of Crimean Tatar activists. After that, several criminal cases were opened. Three Crimeans were accused of involvement in a terrorist organization: Riza Omerov - as an organizer (part 1 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code), Enver Omerov and Ayder Dzhepparov - as participants (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code). In February 2020, all three were charged under a new article: on preparation for a violent seizure of power (Article 278 of the Criminal Code with the application of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code).
