The drug remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19 was approved for use in Russia

The Ministry of Health has registered two drugs of remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19, the press service of the ministry reports.

Registration certificates were issued for Russian and foreign drugs.

On October 14, Pharmasyntez announced the registration of remdesivir and its readiness to produce the drug under the Remdeform trademark “subject to the removal of the current patent restriction.”

The developer of the original drug is American Gilead Sciences.

• In September 2020, Pharmaceutical Bulletin reported that Gilead had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Russian Pharmstandard to bring remdesivir to the Russian market. Pharmstandard planned to distribute Gilead's Vekluri in Russia.
• Remdesivir was developed to treat Ebola. In May 2020, they were allowed to treat coronavirus infection in the United States, in June remdesivir became the first drug approved for use in COVID-19 in the European Union.
