A court in the Moscow region extended the arrest of Rosderzhava journalist Yan Katelevsky for three months.

The Serpukhov City Court extended the preventive measure in the form of detention for Rosderzhava journalist Yan Katelevsky until January 2020. He is accused of extorting a traffic police officer and damaging someone else's property. This was reported by the telegram channel “Power of Movement”.

The defense asked to change the preventive measure to one not related to imprisonment. The prosecution, represented by the prosecutor, asked to extend the arrest for three months. According to the investigation, Katelevsky, wanting to avoid punishment and due to the lack of registration in Russia, will want to hide. Thus, the court fully satisfied the prosecutor's request.

Before the start of the meeting, an ambulance was called for the journalist due to heart pain. In this regard, he asked to postpone the trial to another day, but this was refused. The ambulance doctors arrived diagnosed him with intercostal neuralgia.

On October 9, Katelevsky was transferred from pre-trial detention center-6 in Kolomna to pre-trial detention center-3 in Serpukhov.

• Yan Katelevsky is charged with two criminal articles: in the case of extortion (clause “b” of Part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code) and of damage to property for hooligan reasons (Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code). The case of extortion was opened at the request of a traffic police officer: Katelevsky, together with his colleague Alexander Dorogov, allegedly demanded 1.3 million rubles from the security officer. Both journalists were detained at the end of July, while the criminal case against them was reported a month earlier. By damage to property, the investigation means damage to the hood and mirror of a BMW car worth more than 80 thousand rubles, which Katelevsky allegedly committed on August 31, 2019 in the area of ​​the village of Malakhovka near Moscow.
