European regulator recognizes Boeing 737 Max aircraft as safe

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) recognized that after the changes made, the Boeing 737 Max aircraft became quite safe. Liners can resume flights this year.

EASA is now conducting a final review of documents before preparing an airworthiness directive, said the executive director of the agency, Patrick Kay.

Also, the development of the so-called synthetic sensor is underway, which will improve the safety system of the liner. Work on it will take up to two years, but the sensor will greatly simplify the work of pilots in the event of a failure of one or both mechanical sensors. This mechanism will be used in the next Boeing aircraft model, the 737 Max 10, which will be presented in 2022.

Flights of the Boeing 737 Max were suspended after two crashes involving these liners. The first aircraft of this model crashed in Indonesia in October 2018, the second in Ethiopia in March 2019. A total of 346 people died in the two disasters.

Both crashes were caused by a malfunction in the MCAS system, which automatically corrects the position of the aircraft in the air.
