Petersburg: Residents protested against the demolition of the Research Institute by drawings on the asphalt

In St. Petersburg on October 17, a promotion was held against the building of the former VNIIB of the cellulose and paper industry. Ten local residents came to protect the structure in the style of Stalin’s neoclassicism, the correspondent of North. Realia reports.

They painted the territory before entering the images of the building of the former VNIIB, crossed out by a high -rise building, which is planned to be built in return for the institute. On the asphalt there were inscriptions "There is no demolition! Lynchenko, convene advice."

Activists talked about the upcoming demolition of passers -by, most of which supported the preservation of the building.

“This is the building of the 1955 building - an architectural monument, unique and valuable for both the city and for our area. It is important to preserve it. The construction of the next high -rise building is the deforestation, additional machines, the load on social infrastructure. No one needs it here,” said the local resident Boris.

The St. Petersburg Committee on State Control, the use and Protection of History and Culture Monuments (KGIOP) refused to include the building in the list of protected objects, after which on October 5, the deputy of the St. Petersburg parliament Boris Vishnevsky appealed to the vice-governor Nikolai Linchenko with a request to call up the meeting of the Council of Cultural Heritage under the city government.

After the deputy was contacting the Smolny tenants of the premises in the building of the former VNIIB, they received from the owner the requirements to free the premises within a month. Activists suggest that this is due to the decision to demolish the building before the Council.

The action lasted about two hours, during which a police patrol was on duty 100 meters from the venue.

Promotions and pickets in defense of the VNIIB building have been held since 2019. Almost 900 people signed the petition for its preservation. The preservation of the model of the Stalinist neoclassicism also supports the All -Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture.
