The Ministry of Justice resumed the activities of the “Civil Initiative” party

The Ministry of Justice has resumed the activities of the Civil Initiative party, Kommersant reports, citing its chairman Andrei Nechaev.

“The party fought the Ministry of Justice for nine months, held two congresses and finally won,” Nechaev said. On October 20, the name of the party should appear in the list of active parties on the website of the Ministry of Justice.

After the resumption of activities, Nechaev plans to restore several regional branches liquidated by the Ministry of Justice and implement a number of public projects, for example, a discussion club. Nechaev also indicated his intention to nominate candidates from the party in the elections to the State Duma in 2021, Kommersant reports.

The Supreme Court suspended the activities of the party in January 2020 at the suit of the Ministry of Justice. One of the leaders of the party, Dmitry Gudkov, who left it in March 2020, links the restoration of the registration of the Civil Initiative precisely with his departure.

• The Civil Initiative party was registered in May 2013, Andrey Nechaev became its leader. In 2018, in March, Ksenia Sobchak ran for the Russian presidential election from the Civil Initiative, and Dmitry Gudkov was nominated in the Moscow mayoral elections in September.
• Since the summer of 2018, the party has been trying to register with the Ministry of Justice the new name "Party of Change" and the appointment of a new leader, Dmitry Gudkov, has held three party congresses. However, the Ministry of Justice did not approve these decisions, citing a violation of the registration of the place of residence of some party members.
