The Swedish authorities have blocked access to 5G networks for local companies using Huawei and ZTE equipment. Thus, the kingdom has joined the growing number of European countries that are forcing operators to refuse the services of Chinese manufacturers.

The decision was made before the auction for the main 5G frequencies (3.5 GHz), which will be held in the country on November 10. Sweden states that Chinese private companies "act in accordance with the national strategy of the Communist Party." The already installed infrastructure of Huawei and ZTE, which can be used to serve 5G networks, should be withdrawn by early 2025.

In 2019, the US declared two tech giants a national security threat. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that prohibits companies from buying technology and components from American manufacturers and from doing business in the United States without permission from Washington.
In mid-July 2020, the UK decided to ban the use of Huawei equipment in national 5G networks. The purchase of equipment is prohibited from 2021.
The main beneficiaries of the current situation were the Finnish Nokia Oyj and the Swedish Ericsson AB. So, in September, Nokia made a deal with the largest British mobile operator BT.
