The Moscow City Court awarded 150 thousand rubles in compensation to the former defendant in the “Moscow case” Sergei Abanichev. This was announced by the head of the international legal group "Agora" Pavel Chikov with reference to lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina.
Abanichev demanded to pay him 500 thousand rubles, but the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow refused him compensation.
The defendant was accused of participating in riots due to the protest action on July 27, 2019. During the investigation, he spent a month in a pre-trial detention center for two months, after which the case against him and three other participants in the action was dropped , and Abanichev was released.
Previously, the court ordered the Ministry of Finance to pay compensation to two other defendants in the “Moscow case.” Alexey Minyailo sued 150 thousand rubles, Daniil Konon - 100 thousand.
In the summer of 2019, mass protests took place in Moscow due to the exclusion of independent candidates from the Moscow City Duma elections. The Investigative Committee opened criminal cases of mass riots and attacks on security forces, more than two dozen people were accused.
