Trump announced "significant progress" in resolving the conflict in Nagorno -Karabakh

US President Donald Trump announced to achieve significant progress in negotiations by decision of the Karabakh conflict, Interfax reports. “We are discussing this, we work with Armenia ... We’ll see what will happen, we now see a truly great progress,” he told reporters in the White House.

Trump recalled that many people with Armenian roots live in the USA. “They are very good people,” the president added. “Many of our inhabitants are Armenian origin. They are wonderful, and we will help them,” he said, commenting on negotiations on the Karabakh conflict.

Earlier, Trump at the election rally in the state of Nevada noted the busyness of the Armenian people and their loyalty to the Motherland. At the same time, there were no references to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh in the videos shot at the rally.

On Friday, the head of the State Department Mike Pompeo held negotiations with his colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan. "During meetings separately with the Foreign Minister of Armenia Mnatsakanyan and the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Bayramov, we discussed the key steps necessary to stop violence in Nagorno -Karabakh. Both sides must observe the ceasefire and return to serious negotiations," Pompeo wrote on Twitter.

According to Reuters, it remains unknown to whether direct negotiations between the Azerbaijani and Armenian ministers will take place on Friday.

“They are good people, they are also wonderful businessmen,” Trump said, speaking at a rally in Karson City.

Yerevan and Baku announced a humanitarian truce in the zone of the Karabakh conflict, it entered into force at midnight Sundays in local time (23:00 on Moscow Saturday, October 17). However, the parties accuse each other of violation. On Friday, in several areas of Nagorno -Karabakh there were clashes between the Azerbaijani army and the Armenian military detachments.

The meeting of Pompeo with the foreign ministers of the two member states of the conflict is another attempt to stop bloodshed, the publication says. It provides the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that, from the end of September to the present, 5 thousand people may have become victims of battles.

Shortly before the negotiations in Washington, Turkish President Recep Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul that Türkiye has the same right as Russia, to participate in the negotiation process in order to establish peace. In the USA, France and Moscow, these calls ignored.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev considers the prospects for achieving peaceful settlement as "very distant." He demanded from the Armenia authorities "promises" that Baku would restore control of the Nagorno -Karabakh.
