The investigator refused Ivan Safronov, a former Kommersant journalist accused of high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code), to have a telephone conversation with his mother, as he believes that he can be used to "perform intelligence assignments of a foreign special service." This was reported by MBKh Media with reference to lawyer Ivan Pavlov, who represents the interests of Safronov.
According to the lawyer, the resolution states that the conversation can be used "for covert exchange of information, to carry out other intelligence assignments of a foreign intelligence service directed against the security of the Russian Federation, and to counteract the investigation."
“We are talking about the plane of moral and ethical. Because not everything is regulated by law. Our investigator is an independent figure endowed with a special legal status. He did it because he could do it. The way he explains it - it says what is in a person's head. What are his ideals? How he was brought up. And here the point is what kind of environment he has and how it influenced him, ”said Ivan Pavlov.
