The protest march in Minsk, timed to coincide with the expiration of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya's ultimatum on the resignation of Alexander Lukashenko, ended in a violent dispersal and mass detentions. The security forces used tear gas, stun grenades and water cannons. The number of participants in street actions remains high - today 100-150 thousand people came out in Minsk. Tomorrow the opposition is calling for a general strike.

According to Belarusian telegram channels, 100-150 thousand people took part in the Sunday rally in Minsk, Russian TASS reported tens of thousands of protesters. The demonstrators marched through Minsk in several columns, at about 15:00 they gathered at the stele “Minsk is a Hero City”, then they marched along the streets of Masherov and Pobediteley Avenue.

Around 18:00, when the protesters reached Orlovskaya Street, where the Palace of Independence, one of Lukashenka's residences, is located, the security forces began a hard crackdown using stun grenades. According to Tut.by, there are victims. Novaya Gazeta reported that rubber bullets were also used against the demonstrators. The publication published a photo of a man with a wound on his stomach.

The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs told RIA Novosti that the protesters in Minsk tried to attack the security forces - to prevent this, special means were used.

According to human rights activists, 120 people were detained throughout Belarus during Sunday actions.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called the action evidence that “the will of the people is working and it is undeniable,” and announced an indefinite strike from October 26. According to Tut.by, hundreds of companies, including medical centers, shops, online stores, bars, cafes, language schools, gyms, and travel companies, have announced that they will not work on October 26. Some explain this with technical reasons, others with possible problems with transport and the Internet, and some directly say that they will not work as a sign of solidarity.

The action on October 25 was timed to coincide with the expiration date of the ultimatum put forward to Alexander Lukashenko by Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. The opposition presidential candidate demanded that Alexander Lukashenko leave his post, release political prisoners and stop the violence on the streets.
