In Saransk, a former mufti was fined under the article on distributing extremist materials

The Proletarsky District Court of Saransk fined former Mufti Zyaki Aizatullin 2,000 rubles under an article on the distribution of extremist materials (Article 20.29 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). This writes the analytical center "Sova".

A fine of 100 thousand rubles under the same article was also imposed on the Uksudar mosque, whose mufti Aizatullin was until mid-August 2020.

In court, the prosecution stated that Aizatullin sold one of the parishioners of the mosque the book of Sheikh Muhammad Yusuf Kandehlavi "Selected Hadiths", which was included in the list of extremist materials in 2017.

According to security officials, the book was also found in August 2020 in Aizatullin's office during a search.

• The analytical center "SOVA" considers the recognition of "Selected Hadiths" as extremist as groundless. The ban on the book, according to Sova, may be due to the fact that the author of the Hadiths, Yusuf Kandehlavi, was an idiologist of the Tablighi Jamaat. This association, engaged in the propaganda of fundamentalist Islam, was recognized as extremist in Russia. His supporters are being persecuted, including in the framework of criminal cases.
