Readers of the "Paper" - about the stereotypes that have encountered

At the end of October, St. Petersburg students conducted an action against stereotypes about humanitarian education: they installed banners with the inscriptions “Lera, you won’t earn a design from the universities, go to logistics” and “Who is the culturologist?”. This project is part of the 2nd curatorial forum.

"Paper" published photos of posters on Instagram and asked readers to tell if they were criticized by their specialty. We publish part of the answers.

Galina Astapova

- Upon admission to the faculty of international relations from prospects for girls, it was voiced "to become the wife of a diplomat." True, none of the classmates never became a diplomat, and I, completely not being an exemplary student and not experiencing a love of study, worked for a long time in their specialty.

- I studied at the philological faculty. [I heard this:] "A philologist is not a philologist, a philologist is not a man." “Girls, in the third year you must definitely get married, otherwise you will be left without a husband. They will understand everyone. ” “Why do the girl go to graduate school? Here we take her, then she marries and children, and the place disappears. ” It was also wonderful: “The philologist is how?”, “Do you know how to talk in any language?”

- I am a political scientist. They ask which political party I belong to, and regularly directed to work on the first, second and so on channels.

Lisa Maltseva

- I rebuked from “logistics” to “advertising and public relations”, with a half year of constant criticism from important people. “With your advertising education, your maximum will be a cashier”, “You can’t earn it with this”, “You will not succeed”, “You are not creative enough”, “Why get a gold medal to study on advertising”, “You have no prospects,” and everything is like that. I never spared about the decision.

- She studied at an art critic. 3/4 of others said: "Will you be in a museum on a chair, like grandmothers, sit?"

- Without culture, nowhere, and at the same time there is so little understanding in people as the creative economy functions. Grandma 88 years old about my work in culture every time asked: “Do you even pay something? So what are you doing?"

Of course, economic issues for the Soviet generation are difficult to understand, but in other countries, especially in Europe? The most avid collectors of contemporary art and visitors to exhibitions will rather be very mature.

-I have a specialty-a monumental artist. They ask: "Will you do this Mamaev Kurgan?" I treat it calmly and sometimes I say it - "Well, it’s like Mamaev Kurgan."

-Choreographer, first year. I convey hello to half of the teachers from my school with their favorite phrases: "And in old age, what will you make for your own life?" And "what if the car will drive you and you will remain cripple, what then?"

- Legal. “The chicken is not a bird, a woman is not a lawyer” is the only thing that a judicial ethics teacher was remembered.
