Danil Beglets, convicted in the Moscow case, was released on parole

The defendant in the “Moscow case,” Danil Beglets, was released from a colony in the city of Mtsensk, Oryol region. This was reported by the head of Agora, Pavel Chikov, with reference to lawyer Leonid Solovyov.

On October 20, the Mtsensky District Court granted the request for parole of the prisoner.

In September 2019, he was sentenced to two years in a general regime colony on charges of using violence against a government official (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). At the end of March 2020, the Court of Cassation changed the sentence to a penal colony.

The investigation alleged that during the rally on July 27, 2019, Beglets pulled the arm of a policeman who was detaining the protesters. The accused insisted that he did not participate in the rally, but was waiting on the street for his business partner. Seeing that the security forces were beating the protesters, “I couldn’t look at it calmly and kept [the policeman’s] hand from hitting the guy on the head,” Beglet said.
