Bashkir activist sentenced to forty hours of compulsory labor for rallying against local authorities

The Ishimbay City Court imposed 40 hours of compulsory labor on Ilgam Yanberdin, the defender of the Kushtau Shikhan and a participant in the gathering against the head of the local administration. This was reported by Ural. MBH Media".

The activist was found guilty under the article on participation in an uncoordinated action (Part 5 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code) due to the August 17 gathering for the resignation of the head of the Ishimbay district, Azamat Abdrakhmanov.

“It was not a rally, but a peaceful gathering, but the police still interpreted it as if I was shouting slogans for Abdrakhmanov’s resignation. Then I simply gave my comment from the action on a video camera,” the publication quotes Yanberdina as saying.

Earlier, the Ishimbay court twice fined Farit Rakhmatullov, an elderly participant in similar actions, 20 thousand rubles. He was charged with organizing two rallies. Local activists collected money to pay his fines in less than 24 hours.

Bashkir activists advocate for the preservation of natural monuments - the Kushtau, Toratau and Yuraktau shikhanov. The previously existing shihan of Shakhtau was completely destroyed to obtain raw materials by the Bashkir Soda Company. On August 15, police detained more than 70 defenders of Kushtau, many of them were later arrested under administrative charges. The head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, threatened the protesters with criminal charges, but later promised that the Shikhan would be given the status of a specially protected area.
Many activists and defenders of the Kushtau Shikhan are demanding the resignation of the head of the Ishimbay district administration, Azamat Abdrakhmanov - according to various evidence , it was he who led the destruction of the activists’ tent camp and the arrests on August 15.
On September 2, the government of Bashkiria declared Shikhan Kushtau a natural monument of republican significance. Work on the mountain was suspended.
