Another participant in last year’s rally in Ingushetia was convicted and released after the verdict

The Zheleznovodsk City Court of the Stavropol Territory issued another sentence to a participant in a protest rally in Ingushetia that took place in March 2019. Maksharip Batygov was sentenced to 11 months in a penal colony, reports . Fortanga.ORG

Batygov was credited with the time spent in custody and released in the courtroom.

Like most of the defendants in the case initiated in the wake of the action on March 26, 2019 in Magas, Batygov was accused of using violence against a representative of the authorities that is not dangerous to life and health (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code). The prosecutor in the debate demanded to sentence him to a year and three months in prison.

According to the lawyer Bayramuk Bekkuev, who represented the interests of the accused, Batygov partially admitted his guilt. “He worked not far from the rally in Magas. I saw how the security forces beat the elderly, and decided to intervene by kicking a Russian Guard officer in the thigh. Maksharip pleaded guilty to using non-dangerous violence against a government official, but rejected the political motive for his actions, ”the portal quotes the lawyer.

Batygov was taken into custody on February 6. At that moment, he, like other detainees in the case, was accused of using violence dangerous to the life and health of a representative of the authorities (part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code), but then the charge was mitigated for everyone. Another defendant, detained at the same time as Batygov, Amirkhan Bekov, was sentenced on November 5 to a year in prison and also released in the courtroom.

On March 26, 2019, about 10 thousand people came to the rally in Magas. About two thousand protesters remained on the square all night. In the morning they began to be dispersed, as a result of which clashes broke out between the security forces and the protesters .
• According to the Memorial human rights center, as of October 2020, 45 people were brought to justice in the wake of the rally in Magas, and criminal prosecution against 3 of them was discontinued. 26 defendants in the "Ingush case" were sentenced to terms ranging from one year and four months in a colony-settlement to one year and ten months in a general regime colony.
