The court commuted the sentences of two more defendants in the “Moscow case”

The court commuted the sentence of two more defendants in the Moscow case, Yegor Lesnykh and Maxim Martintsov, who were accused of assaulting a National Guard officer. Now they will serve their sentences not in prison, but in a colony-settlement.

The sentence to the defendants was changed by the second cassation court of general jurisdiction. “The judicial board changed the type of correctional institution for Martintsov and Lesnykh from a general regime colony to a colony-settlement,” said . the press service of the court

According to investigators, at a rally on July 27, 2019, Lesnykh kicked an employee of the National Guard, and knocked another one, along with Martintsov, onto the sidewalk. Both are accused of using violence against a representative of the authorities (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The court appointed them 3 and 2.5 years in prison. Alexander Mylnikov was also involved in the case, he received two years of probation in prison.

• This is not the first time the court has commuted the sentences of the defendants in the “Moscow case” after almost a year of sentencing. In April 2020, the court reduced the term of activist Konstantin Kotov, the second person in Russia convicted in the case of repeated violations at rallies, from four to one and a half years. Also in April, the Moscow City Court commuted the sentence of another person involved in the case, Nikita Chirtsov, to 11 months in prison. Since he had already served this term, Chirtsov was released in the courtroom.
