The Russian stock market by Monday evening accelerated growth following oil prices and world markets. The euro for the first time since the end of September fell below 90 rubles, the dollar - cheaper than 76 rubles, also for the first time in more than a month. Brent and WTI rose by 9-10% on news of a successful coronavirus vaccine trial.
Global markets continued to grow on Monday morning on optimism after the US presidential election, and in the afternoon they sharply accelerated growth. The reason was the announcement of the German company BioNTech and the American Pfizer about the successful completion of the third phase of clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine. It has shown effectiveness in more than 90% of cases and can be registered as early as November.
The first to react to this news were oil prices, which rose by 9-10%. At 18:12 Moscow time, Brent for January delivery cost $42.97 per barrel, having risen in price by 8.9%. December futures for WTI crude rose 10% to $40.87 per barrel.
The ruble followed oil prices. For the first time since September, the dollar fell on the stock exchange below 76 rubles, the euro - cheaper than 90 rubles. At 18:27, the dollar was worth 75.8 rubles, having fallen by 1.5 rubles. The euro traded at 89.9 rubles, 2 rubles below the previous close.
Stock indices are growing - RTS by 5%, the Moscow Exchange index by 3.2%. The shares of Russian companies rise in price - Sberbank by 5.3%, Norilsk Nickel by 3.2%, Gazprom by 3.8%, Lukoil by 9.2%, Magnit by 2.2%, Yandex » by 1.45%. Only Polyus quotes are falling - by 9.6% due to lower gold prices.
Shares of BioNTech and Pfizer rose by 15-16% after the news about the vaccine. The Moscow Exchange raised the border of the price corridor and the range of assessment of market risks for Pfizer shares. US stock indexes started trading on Monday with growth of 1-5%, while the Dow Jones and S&P 500 indexes updated their historical records.
