The first planes with Russian peacekeepers for Nagorno-Karabakh arrived in Armenia

In Armenia, four planes with Russian peacekeepers landed at the base at the Erebuni airfield, TASS reports citing the Russian Defense Ministry.

The planes delivered about 80 military personnel of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade (peacekeeping) of the Central Military District, armored personnel carriers, armored vehicles and communications equipment, and officers of the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces also flew to Armenia on a separate plane.

In total, 1,960 military personnel, 90 armored personnel carriers, 380 vehicles and special equipment will be deployed to deploy a peacekeeping contingent in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, the Defense Ministry said.

• Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, Russian peacekeepers will be on the line of contact between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces. They will also protect the Lachin corridor connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia. The command of the peacekeeping operation will be located in the Stepanakert region.
• The deployment of a Russian peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh provides for an agreement on the cessation of hostilities, which was signed by Armenia and Azerbaijan on the night of November 10 through the mediation of Russia. After it became known about the agreement, protests began in Yerevan, the participants of which broke into the government building and the Armenian parliament.
• A few hours before the conclusion of an agreement over Armenia, a Russian Mi-24 helicopter was shot down near the border with Azerbaijan. Two Russian servicemen were killed and another was injured. Azerbaijani authorities said they shot down the helicopter by mistake. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, apologized for what had happened and promised to punish those responsible.
