On November 10, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to end the war in Nagorno -Karabakh. The latest clashes in the region lasted since the end of September. Negotiations have ended through the mediation of Russia, agreements will be valid for five years with the possibility of extension.
Almost 2000 Russian peacekeepers will be introduced into the contact line. They will guard the Lachinsky corridor, which connects the capital of the Nagorno -Karabakh Stepanakert with Armenia. Peacekeepers will also stand at the corridor to the Nakhichevan region. This is an exclus of Azerbaijan in Armenia.
The status of the unrecognized Republic of Karabakh is not described in the contract, and it will definitely lose a significant part of its territory - these areas will move away to Azerbaijan. Including the city of Shusha , located only 14 kilometers from Stepanakert.
After the announcement of the news of the end of the war in Yerevan, unrest began. Protesters broke into the buildings of the government and parliament of Armenia. 17 Opposition Armenian parties demanded the resignation of the country's Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan.
Pashinyan himself said that he decided to go to an agreement on the termination of hostilities after repeated requests of the military. According to him, there was no alternative scenario, but he refuses to consider Armenia the loser. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in his appeal to the nation, on the contrary, announced a "glorious victory."
