The government has proposed establishing a naval base in Sudan.

The government proposed that President Vladimir Putin sign an agreement with Sudan on the creation of a logistics support center for the Navy. This follows from the resolution published on November 6 on the legal information portal.

According to the document, the Russian military will be able to keep no more than four ships at the base, including those equipped with a nuclear power plant. The number of military and civilians at the point should not exceed 300 people.

“The Republic of Sudan expresses the consent of the Russian Federation to the creation and placement on the territory of the Republic of Sudan of a logistics support point, as well as the development and modernization of its infrastructure for repairs, replenishment and recreation of crew members of warships of the Russian Federation,” says the document agreed both sides.

Russia will also receive the right to duty-free import and export to Sudan of any weapons, ammunition and equipment necessary for the base.
