There are victims, but there is no sorrow

Why in Russia still has not honored the memory of those who died from Covid-19

Have you noticed how, in the main Russian information television program, “Time” on Channel One began to give a summary of coronavirus recently? They will show you and tell you how many people were infected with coronavirus around the country, how much recovered, but how much died - the information stopped giving this.

Let me remind you that in the spring they made it differently: graphs, including with data for the dead, and showed, and voiced. Then, over the past few months, graphs and data showed, but the numbers were no longer called. And now, when the number of dead exceeded 30 thousand people (according to the operational headquarters), the corresponding figures in the “Time” program stopped showing and calling. There is coronavirus, but there is no deceased - so it turns out?

Here is such an informational struggle against coronavirus. Today, when the number of daily deaths has increased sharply compared to the first wave of pandemic, it was apparently decided that it was better to soak the corresponding numbers. Why did you decide so? It seems that because it does not fit into the fact that they tried to inspire the population for many months: Russia copes with Pandemia better than others.

There is another important question. Why still in Russia at the state level have not honored the memory of the covid-19 victims? Because still the pandemic is not over? But this is not an answer.

Still, several tens of thousands of people have already become victims of the pandemic in Russia. Tens of thousands!

Russia and in this regard is very different from many countries of the world. In China, the day of national mourning became April 4, 2020. Then, on the Square of Tiananmen and all government buildings in the country, as well as on all buildings of embassies and consulates in China, state flags were imposed abroad. All entertainment events were canceled. The official mourning ceremony in the state residence of Zhunnanhai was attended by the highest party and statesmen of China, headed by the chairman of the PRC Xi Jinping. The whole country honored the memory of the dead from the Covid-19 three minutes of silence.

In the United States, with the whole well-known Donald Trump Covid, in late May, 2020, in memory of the Americans who became victims of the pandemic, flags on all federal buildings and national monuments were visited for three days.

In Spain, 10-day national mourning was announced on May 27, 2020. A minute of silence passed, state flags were seen. In addition, in July of this year, a special mourning farewell ceremony was held with 28 thousand victims of coronavirus (at that time). The events were attended by the King of Spain Philip VI, senior officials, including the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyain, the general director of Tedros Adkhan Goebreesus and others. In total, hundreds of people gathered in the square in front of the royal palace in Madrid, including ordinary people.

In Italy, the authorities found time to honor the memory of the deceased from coronavirus on March 31, 2020, in the midst of the first wave of pandemic. There was a minute of silence, national flags were visible, including over the presidential Quirinal Palace and over the buildings of both chambers of the Italian parliament.

In the UK, at the national level, the memory of doctors and social workers who died in the Pandemia was honored on April 28, 2020.

In France, the National Assembly honored the memory of the victims of Coronavirus on March 31, 2020.

In Sweden, the ceremony in memory of the dead from Covid-19 was held on June 17, 2020. The memory was honored, including a minute of silence.

In Kazakhstan on the day of nationwide mourning-July 13-they honored the memory of the dead from the Covid-19 minutes of silence. The ceremony was held at the highest state level. The head of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev took part in it. National state flags were seen throughout the country, entertainment programs on television and radio channels were canceled.

At that time, as of July 13, 2020, 375 people died from coronavirus in Kazakhstan.

In addition to official events at the state level devoted to the memory of the victims of coronavirus, in different countries there were other forms of expression of sorrow and memory. So, in Uruguay in August 2020, the project of the world's first memorial to the victims of Covid-19 was presented. The project was presented by the Latin American architectural bureau Gomez Platero.

In Ecuador, to honor the memory of the victims, they created a virtual cemetery (the author - Guillermo Robalino). This was motivated by the fact that many failed to say goodbye to the dead because of the hard quarantine measures. Now, with the creation of a virtual cemetery, this will be possible.

In Seville (Spain), 53 thousand small Spanish flags along the Guadalquivir River were installed in memory of the victims of coronavirus. Moreover, before such shares were held in Madrid and Valencia.

So they honor the memory of the victims of the pandemic in the world.

Among the amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the vote for which it was necessary to organize during the pandemic period, there was an amendment in Art. 67, whose preamble reads: "The Russian Federation, united by a thousand -year history, preserving the memory of the ancestors ..."

To preserve the “memory of the ancestors” is, of course, right. What about our memory - the memory of contemporaries? Is it no less important?

The main reason that we still have officially, at the state level, we have not honored the memory of the covid-19 victims, apparently, is that the authorities decided not to attract excessive attention to how many people have already died in Russia from coronavirus.

“Not a word about the dead” is such an approach. This is wrong.
