Lavrov announced sanctions against Germany and France due to the poisoning of Navalny

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia would introduce mirror sanctions against France and Germany “in connection with Navalny.” The Foreign Minister said this during a press conference broadcast by Rossiya 24.

“Of course, there will be responses to sanctions. And since Germany was the driving force behind the EU sanctions in connection with Navalny, these sanctions directly affect senior staff of the presidential administration, and our retaliatory sanctions will be mirrored. They have already been adopted, we will soon inform our French and German colleagues about this,” Lavrov said.

The Foreign Minister also said that Russia “has reason to believe that everything that happened to him (to Navalny - MZ) in terms of the penetration of chemical warfare agents into his body could have happened in Germany or on the plane.”

Alexei Navalny became ill on August 20 during the Tomsk-Moscow flight. The plane landed urgently in Omsk, the politician was taken to a local hospital and connected to a ventilator, he fell into a coma. Two days later, Navalny was transferred to the Charite clinic in Berlin .
