US authorities allowed Qualcomm to supply Chinese Huawei chips

The American company Qualcomm received a permit from the US authorities to supply mobile chips with support for 4G, a Chinese manufacturer of Huawei smartphones under sanctions. It is reported by Reuters .

Qualcomm did not specify which chips the company will supply Huawei, but noted that we are talking about processors for mobile devices. At the same time, it is still unclear whether the company will be able to supply Huawei chips with 5G support, which gradually replace chips with support for 4G networks and appear not only in flagship smartphones, but also in medium price devices.

Recall that in mid -May 2020, the US Department of Trade tightened sanctions against Huawei, banning the supply of Huawei semiconductors with companies that use American equipment or software. This ban applies to any companies in the world. New sanctions allowed the American authorities to block the supplies of semiconductors by the Taiwanese company TSMC, Hisilicon, which produced Kirin processors for Huawei. New sanctions made it possible to ship the Huawei chips that have already been launched into production, but only if the supply is completed within 120 days, starting on May 15. This period has expired on September 15.

Due to the sanctions, Huawei had previously lost the opportunity to install Google services on its new smartphones. In this regard, the company is developing its own analogues of these services, including the applied application store, and also works on its own Harmonyos mobile operating system - the updated version of this OC was presented in early September.

The US authorities have repeatedly accused Huawei of espionage of the interests of Bekin with the help of backdors in equipment. Representatives of the Chinese company deny these accusations.
