COVID dissident and opera singer Vadim Cheldiev's arrest extended until February 2021

The Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don extended the preventive measure in the form of detention for COVID-dissident and opera singer Vadim Cheldiev. The term of detention in the pre-trial detention center was extended until February 18, 2021.

In September, Cheldiev was transferred from a pre-trial detention center in Rostov-on-Don to an isolation ward in Novocherkassk. The singer's defense believes that the security forces are thus "trying to break" Cheldiev.

Five criminal cases were initiated against Cheldiev in connection with calls to come to the people's gathering on April 20 in Vladikavkaz. He was accused:

2. in the public dissemination of deliberately false information about circumstances that pose a threat to the life and safety of citizens ( Article 207.1 of the Criminal Code );
3. in the use of violence against a representative of authority ( part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code );
4. in public calls for the implementation of extremist activities ( Article 280 of the Criminal Code );
5. in the organization of hooliganism ( part 2 of article 213 of the Criminal Code with the application of part 3 of article 33 of the Criminal Code ).

Cheldiev was added to the list of extremists.
