The historian Yuri Dmitriev can be added ten more years of colony
The Karelian historian and the head of the regional “memorial” to Yuri Dmitriev, convicted of 13 years on charges of violent actions against a minor, can add another 10 years to the existing term.
This follows from the speech of the children's ombudsman Karelia Gennady Saraev, who collected a special press conference on Wednesday. Saraev said that in Dmitriev’s computer “next to the photographs of the daughter” allegedly discovered other people's porn films, and some witnesses saw how the historian watched them, and had already given testimony against him.
Saraev claims that it was the porn films found on Dmitriev’s home computer that became the reason for returning to the court of the case of the manufacture of pornographic materials with the participation of a minor, according to which the historian was previously acquitted. The children's Ombudsman Karelia announced that now the court can consider these films as a motive for committing a crime: before, according to Saraev, the motive was incomprehensible.
The case against Dmitriev about the manufacture of children's pornography will be considered for the third time, as well as two more cases, the charges of which were removed from Dmitriev - about depraved actions in relation to a minor and storage of weapons.
- At the end of July, the Petrozavodsk City Court sentenced the historian Yuri Dmitriev to 3.5 years in the colony on charges of sexual violence against her daughter's adopted. Dmitriev did not admit his guilt.
- On September 29, in the Supreme Court of Karelia, Judge Alla Rats tightened the punishment for the historian: the term of imprisonment was changed for 13 years of maximum security. The European Union demanded that Dmitriev be liberated. The EU believes that a criminal case against a historian is connected with his human rights activities.
- Yuri Dmitriev, along with colleagues in the 1990s, opened the tract Sandarmokh, where people were shot during the Great Terror. In total, about 150 grave pits were recorded and noted, in which about 4–4.5 thousand people could be located.
