Pogorov himself was put on the federal wanted list back in 2019, and now he is at large in an unknown location. Last year, the homes of his relatives were searched at least five times already. He was put on the wanted list due to the fact that he violated his undertaking not to leave, although he claims that he did not give such an undertaking.
Akhmed Pogorov is being prosecuted under several criminal articles at once in connection with the protests in Ingushetia in the spring of 2019. He is charged with creating an extremist community (part 1 of article 282.1 of the Criminal Code), organizing life-threatening violence against police officers (part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code with the application of part 3 of article 33), as well as the creation of a non-profit organization whose activities are associated with the inducement of citizens to commit unlawful acts (part 2 of article 239 of the Criminal Code).
