Four former prisoners of colony No. 2 of Kalmykia were detained on charges of participation in the activities of a terrorist community (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code), according to the website of the Investigative Committee.
Two people were detained during their release from the colony, the release notes. The new suspects and their relatives were searched, Investigative Committee reports. There are now 44 defendants in the case, according to the department’s website.
The investigation plans to petition for the arrest of former prisoners.
“Mediazona” spoke in detail about the case of the creation of the “terrorist community “Jamaat”” in IK-2 of Kalmykia. He was charged at the end of November 2019. A few months earlier, extremist literature and the flag of the “Islamic State” were confiscated in the colony, it was stated.
According to investigators, a native of Dagestan, Shakhban Gasanov, who served a sentence in this colony from 2013 to 2014 for illegal arms trafficking (Article 222 of the Criminal Code), shared the ideas of the Islamic State. No later than 2013, he created the “terrorist community “Jamaat”” on the territory of the colony and became its first amir, the case materials stated.
In March 2015, Gasanov died during a special operation in Khasavyurt. According to the Investigative Committee, the group changed six leaders, and the group itself consisted of more than 100 people.
According to the investigation, members of the terrorist community professed radical Islam, spread extremist and terrorist ideology in the colony, financed international terrorists, involved other convicts in their activities, and also recruited them to “wage armed struggle against representatives of the current government” in Russia.
Relatives of the accused, with whom Mediazona was able to talk, are confident that the case is fabricated.
