"I had to soak the BG voice in the elixir of youth"

One of the most striking stories of this year, marked by the world locaun, the closure of borders and universal isolation, was the appearance of the Jama-Russian album “Aquarium In Dub”. On it, the reggae version of the old songs of Boris Grebenshchikov, the main propagandist of the Rast-culture in Russia, was made by the team of the Jamaician and Russian musicians, led by the inventor of Dabe Lee Skretch Perry , the personal idol of the BG. For connoisseurs of Jamaica music in Russia and for BG itself, this is a symbolic, musical bridge of friendship, love and respect, thrown between St. Petersburg and Jamaica.

This project arose and took place thanks to the efforts of the Samara musician and producer of the Left Patsan. We asked him about how he worked with Lee Skratch Perry, and about what this project would follow.

-As a native of the Samara region, Aleksey Patsaev became a left-sheet-poutine, began to perform Danshall and look for his way to Jamaica?

- I was born left -handed. This is my name from the kindergarten. And they began to call the kid later, in elementary school. Putting and dividing into two, you can get data on the average psychological age of the lyrical hero.

In the zero, my friends and I were one of the first in Russia to do Danshall. But I really plunged into the Ruts-Reggi , producing the album of the group “Two Lions” -the pioneers of the genre in post-Soviet Russia. These regsy ruggs since 1992. They helped me with the RUT PARSIA for the Aquarium.

- How did the project “Aquarium In Dub ” began?

- With layering of desires:

1) go to Jamaica;
2) write something for the Aquarium;
3) To smoke with his grandfather (Lee Skratech Perry. - Ed. ), So far it is still possible.

“Why did you want to go to Yamaika so much?”

- Imagine that Azerbaijan would have invented musical genres one after another, which would delight and conquer the whole world, and the performers of the USSR or the Russian Federation would go to the Caucasus for the sound resonance of the place. So for half a century, Jamaica is perceived by the Western world.

However, for Russia, the Volga became the Caribbean.

And Boris Grebenshchikov brought Caribbean music to the USSR: if the “Babylon” is considered the first reggae-singing of our country, then “212–85–06” is the first Soviet Dub.

- You said in one interview: “At first, the parties did not really believe in my venture. Boris had no idea that this was possible. And Lee Perry did not believe that I would collect the right amount. ”

On Planet.ru, you raised 390 thousand rubles per album - is this the entire budget of the project, including the fee fee, the work of musicians, rental studio and travel expenses?

- Yes. And among other things, this money was enough for me for an electric bike, from which I do not get off the last six months.

- How was the work on the album built? What was the role of Skratcha Perry?

- I lived and worked in a tent in the garden of Joe. Joe is an agronomist. He grows sacred plants. Somehow the Perry family stopped to us for tea with milk. Since then, they began to call in often. Joe had a lot of work, and I have a fun company.

In the afternoon, I studied the Jamaican geography, Flora and Fauna by bicycle.

And in the evening we met in Lee's studio, and the most magical part began.

Lee packed with a peacock in his dazzling outfits, wrote something, asked something 10 times, teased me “Russian Soldier” , and then strikingly solved the task set along the song.

- Was the vocals of the BG took from the old records or wrote again?

- I wanted to. I really wanted to take votes from the notes of the 80s . Preferably from the coils. But ... neither Boris, nor Tropillo, nor Gapeev have them. Therefore, I had to soak Boris's voice in the elixir of youth and steal analog lotions on him. At the same time, sometimes the voice of the BG turned into the voice of Bob, and sometimes did not want to.

And in some songs, for example in the "aristocrat", we did not use sounds younger than the 80s .

- Four Yamaisky and more than a dozen Russian musicians took part in the work on the album - why so many?

- Knowing the love of the Aquarium for different directions of Jamaica music, I decided to make the album heterogeneous.

Here, Ruts-Roggi (“Babylon”), and Dub (“Fish eats Babylon”), and Calipso (“Apple Days”), and Danshall (“Ivan and Danilo”), and the aquarium ”sound of Rubekin (“ Fish ”).

-Tell us some incredible story about Lee Scratche Perry.

- Well, for example, he can walk along the street, stop and try on a female dress that he attracted.

But for me the most incredible was his concert.

The whole color of the Jamaisky regga gathered at the concert. I lived, not knowing that there are so many beautifully dressed people in the world ...

With a delay of three o’clock, the wizard scratch rose on stage. The presenter so epic represented him, and everyone froze in silence so that I was almost believed that before us was a living descendant of King David, the governor of Jesus on earth and someone else.

And here is the picture.

Lee does not sing, giggles and composes along the way. And behind his whispering manner, once, then another, I clearly hear the word Russian . And people look at me so cunningly, someone smiles ... So ... So, it did not seem to me ...

I almost believed myself that before us a living descendant of King David and the governor of Jesus on earth.

I tried to delve into the essence of the pronounced, and I extremely managed to isolate the following: “Russian soldiers, pity on American soldiers. They also want to live. ” Everyone was laughing, as in Zadornov. And then the outrage extends the microphone in my direction. I don’t know if he planned it in advance or not, but there was no time to be shy. I sang RAGGU about the fact that we do not live here for long. Ey! And you know, if it were on the Volga ... on the same "metaphest" ... I would not be surprised ...

But deep down, I had a suspicion that I, we (yes, in fact, are all who make such funny music here), we are, as it were, the second echelon. A certain replacement of the Jamaican original.

That night I was convinced that this was not so.

- You also produced the album cartoon. Why - this is a long and painstaking work?

- I agree, but in our time, people are completely embroidered and without a picture no longer imagine what the music looks like. And I saw the picture before work. And it was necessary to give people an idea of ​​what is not there yet. Therefore, he turned to the animator Vande Bark, who made videos for Bowie. And she, inspired by the venture, drew a cartoon. The process began to materialize.

- You got more than one album, but three: “Aquarium in DUB ”, alternative dessions “Dub in aquarium. Bonus Game ” and another third-Riddim album“ Ivan and Danilo Riddim ”. Why so many?

- The first - “Aquarium in Dub ” is a quintessence, freshly squeezed juice. The second is a smoothie with pieces of fruit and Caribbean pepper Scotch Bonnet . And the third is like if everyone whose taste I trust will take this juice and make the most fantastic cocktail with it, which can be invented.

The album of Dabov and Riddim album are traditional for Jamaica.

-You announced the release of the album on CDs. Will there be no vinyl?

- In the "Vargorod" there is already a "aquarium in dub " on the disks.

The second will soon be there too. Vinyl is in plans.

- Are you going to return to Jamaica in the near future?

- The fact is that in the course of joint exercises with the Yamai army, the Pechenegs made atomic weapons. Now it is undesirable for me to appear there for some time. And after the next album I will go to another place.

- And what kind of project with the RomuvPr do you prepare after?

- Romuvpre is called the Russian bob Marley. But I will say even more. He presented the Russian soul with international music. And I will not sin against the truth, saying that he is one of the few contemporaries whose songs are real poetry.

And besides, over the past 10 years, he has so tired in his Russian-African voice, which is even surprising why he still did not have a modern firm sound. What I do.
