The Sergei Kuryokhin Prize will be awarded on December 26

The Sergei Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art announced December 26 as the date for the presentation ceremony of the XI Sergei Kuryokhin Prize in Contemporary Art.

According to the press service of the Sergei Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art, the ceremony will take place offline and will be broadcast on the Internet for a wide audience.

By the end of November, it is planned to open an exhibition of nominees for the XI Sergei Kuryokhin Prize, which will feature objects from artists included in the long list .

This year, the longlist included 51 projects from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Novokuznetsk, Krasnodar, Helsinki and other cities in seven competitive categories:

● Grand Prix “Pop Mechanics” (performance, synthetic project, possibly with the participation of a live musical component);
● “Best curatorial project”;
● “Best work of visual art”;
● “Best media object”;
● “Art in public space”;
● “The best text about contemporary art”;
● “ Science art project”.

Initially, the awards ceremony for the 11th season of the award was supposed to take place on April 26, but the organizers were forced to cancel the ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

The annual prize in the field of contemporary art named after Sergei Kuryokhin was established in 2009 by the Sergey Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art together with the Sergey Kuryokhin Charitable Foundation. The prize is awarded to artists, curators and musicians who, in their work, develop progressive ideas formulated back in the 1990s by Sergei Kuryokhin.

The main objective of the prize is to identify and support promising artists, curators and musicians, improve the status of Russian art and its integration into the international cultural environment.
