The new hydroelectric generator was delivered as part of the complex program for the modernization of hydroelectric power plants "New Energy", which is being implemented at the HPPs of the Angara-Yenisei cascade, which are part of the En+ Group. The program is aimed at introducing advanced technologies in generation, energy saving, industrial and environmental safety. Its implementation in the long term will ensure one of the industry's best performance indicators for En+ Group's hydroelectric power plants.
In total, within the framework of this program, ELSIB will supply four hydroelectric generators to the Irkutsk HPP to replace the exhausted machines.
From 1956 to 1957, Novosibirsk machine builders fully equipped the machine room of the Irkutsk HPP with eight hydrogenerators with a total capacity of 662.4 MW. For the enterprise, this was a debut in the hydrogenerator industry, as well as a historically significant important stage in the development.
“Hydrogenerators manufactured for the Irkutsk HPP today have a number of design features that are directly related to customer requirements and compliance with modern standards,” said Andrey Chirikov, technical director of NPO ELSIB PJSC.
The final assembly of the hydrogenerator was carried out at the assembly site and in the engine room of the HPP. Directly in the generator shaft, the stator core was assembled “into a ring” and the subsequent winding was laid. The assembled hydro-generator rotor weighing 477 tons was brought into the stator with the help of two powerful machine room cranes with a lifting capacity of 275 tons each.
After the modernization, the total installed capacity of the station will increase to 783 MW, and the annual output will increase by 200 million kilowatt-hours, using the same amount of water, which is especially important in conditions of periodically occurring extreme low water in Baikal.
Modernization of the equipment of the Irkutsk HPP will increase its efficiency, make it possible to reduce the cost of repairs, improve the performance of the units and the plant as a whole.
