The court sentenced to 12 years in prison a man from Omsk who beat his three-year-old stepson until his internal organs ruptured.

A court in the Omsk region sentenced 34-year-old local resident Sergei Lavrenov, who beat his stepson to death, to 12.5 years in a maximum security colony. This was reported by the regional department of the Investigative Committee.

As stated in the release, on the evening of July 28, Lavrenov was drinking at his house in the village of Presnovka. While drunk, he hit his three-year-old stepson in the back because “the child wouldn’t listen.” The boy fell, hitting his head, then Lavrenov punched and kicked his stepson in the stomach several more times. As the Investigative Committee notes, the child suffered “an abdominal injury with rupture of internal organs,” from which he died.

The department writes that the boy’s mother, knowing about the beating, did not call an ambulance, but simply put the child to bed, ignoring his complaints. That same evening, Lavrenov hit his wife in the face with his fist, “expressing reproaches that she was allegedly interfering in the neighbors’ family affairs.” The woman was diagnosed with a fractured lower jaw.
