A journalist and a doctor arrested for the truth about the death of Roman Bondarenko were not released from custody

On the evening of November 29, the deadline ended during which TUT.BY journalist Katerina Borisevich and an ambulance hospital, Artem Sorokina, had to either be charged and choose a preventive measure, or release from custody. The whole country expected that on this day both would be released, but they were never released. And this can only mean one thing: the charges and the preventive measure in the form of detention.

The main news, of course, expected the detainees from lawyers. However, they said that they were taken from non -disclosure, therefore, for what time for Artem and Katerina they chose the most stringent preventive measure, Belarusians are unknown. According to Article 127 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Belarus, the preventive measure in the form of a detention cannot exceed two months (then the prosecutors of the districts and cities may renew the conclusion), but there were no cases in history to be prescribed for a shorter term. So for now it can be argued that both were arrested before January 19, 2021.

Recall, we are talking about the publication of the results of the examination of the murdered resident of the Square of Changes, Roman Bondarenko. The catch is that the results of this examination completely contradict the official version of the UK, according to which the novel was drunk during the detention. Lukashenko also voiced the same version. However, the document from the ambulance hospital, which journalist Katerina Borisevich was transmitted by the doctor of the same hospital Artem Sorokin, says the opposite: the novel was absolutely sober. In his blood there was 0 ppm of alcohol. As a result, both the doctor and the journalist were detained.

It is known that the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case on the disclosure of medical secrets, which entailed grave consequences. Under the serious consequences, the Prosecutor General’s Office refers to “increasing tension in society, creating an atmosphere of distrust of competent state bodies, as well as the advance of citizens to aggression and illegal actions”. We are talking about Part 3 of Article 178 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The punishment under this article provides for imprisonment for up to three years with a fine and deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or without deprivation.

It is known that on November 27, the leading independent media sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office with a request to choose a different preventive measure for Katerina Borisevich (personal guarantee, pledge, house arrest), and not detention. However, there was no reaction to the appeal.

By the way, the irony of fate Katerina Borisevich is considered one of the best journalists in the country writing on criminal and legal topics. She was repeatedly awarded the Investigative Committee and Prosecutor General’s Office with diplomas and diplomas “For legal education of citizens and coverage of law enforcement agencies”.

So far, Katerina Borisevich is only known that she did not publicly give any confession. From the letter that she sent one of her colleagues, it is clear that the girl holds and awake, hopes for her quickly liberation. For all the time, Katerina came only one letter, although it is reliably known that thousands of Belarusians now write letters and cards with words of support.

It is also known that from the KGB pre -trial detention center, the journalist was transferred “to Volodarka” - in pre -trial detention center No. 1 on Volodarsky Street in Minsk. It remains to guess about the conditions in which the girl is now located only according to the stories of prisoners who have already gone through this pre -trial detention center. According to them, the everyday conditions there are much worse than in the KGB pre -trial detention center: ten people in the cell, damp and almost without daylight. The Belarusian Association of Journalists requires immediately releasing Katerina Borisevich, urging the Prosecutor General’s Office to focus on finding the guilty of the death of Roman Bondarenko, and not to persecute the journalist who prepared the material; And the doctor, who gave a comment on the socially important topic, without violating any rights of the relatives of the deceased (the relatives of Roman Bondarenko have no complaints to Katerina Borisevich and Artem Sorokin). The Belarusian human rights organizations have already recognized the journalist and the physician political prisoners, and the international organization of Amnesty International - prisoners of conscience.
