Chairman of the All-Tatar Public Center Farid Zakiev was assigned 60 hours of compulsory work, according to the Protest Kazan telegram channel.
Zakiev was detained in Kazan on December 1 at a one-man picket in defense of Tatarstan's constitutional court, but was tried for violations at an agreed-upon rally on October 18 dedicated to the Day of Remembrance.
After the execution of the protocol under the “arrest” article on the repeated violation of the rules for participation in the action (part 8 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses), Zakiev was left for the night before the trial in police department No. 2. An ambulance came to him there.
- Farid Zakiyev opposed the abolition of regional constitutional courts. The corresponding bill was adopted by the State Duma in the third reading on November 18.
- Constitutional and statutory courts in the subjects of the Russian Federation may decide on the inconsistency of regional laws with the Constitution or the charters of these subjects, as well as demand their change. So, in March 2020, the Constitutional Court of Ingushetia recognized some regional restrictions on holding public actions as unreasonable. This decision was a response to a complaint about the ban on rallies near bridges, highways, railway stations and medical organizations.
- Zakiev, along with other activists, was detained in October 2020 on the eve of the “Khater Kon” commemoration rally about the Tatars who died in 1552 during the capture of the city by Ivan IV the Terrible. On October 10, it became known that the mayor's office of Kazan refused to coordinate the event. On October 14, three Tatar activists were tried to be given warnings about the inadmissibility of illegal actions. The court then declared illegal the refusal of the authorities to approve a rally in honor of the Day of Remembrance.
