The 31st verdict in the “Ingush case” was passed in the Stavropol region

The Zheleznovodsk City Court of the Stavropol Territory sentenced Zakri Bapkhoev, a participant in the Magas rally in 2019. This was reported by the Human Rights Center "Memorial".

The court found Bakkhoev guilty under the article on the use of non-dangerous violence against a representative of the authorities (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code) and appointed him six months in a general regime colony. The activist was credited for the time spent in custody in a pre-trial detention center and under house arrest, and was released in the courtroom. The prosecutor asked to send him to a colony for a year and two months.

According to the investigation, Zakri Bapkhoev threw a plastic bottle at one National Guard and kicked the shield of another. Bakkhoev partially admitted his guilt - he denied that there was a political motive in his actions. The judge nevertheless considered the motive of enmity towards the then head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, as an aggravating circumstance.

• Zakri Bapkhoev was detained as part of a criminal case in February 2020. By a court decision, he was taken into custody, but in April he was transferred to house arrest.
• In September 2018, the authorities of Ingushetia and Chechnya signed an agreement to change the border between the republics, after which protests began in Ingushetia. On March 26, 2019, about 10 thousand people came to the rally in Magas. About two thousand protesters remained on the square all night. In the morning they began to be dispersed, as a result of which clashes broke out between the security forces and the protesters .
• According to the Memorial human rights center, as of November 23, 2020, 46 people were brought to justice in the wake of the rally in Magas, and criminal prosecution against 3 of them was discontinued. 30 defendants in the "Ingush case" before Bopkhoev have already been sentenced to imprisonment for terms ranging from 8 months to one year and eleven months. In particular, Bopkhoev's brother, Zelimkhan, was sentenced in February to one and a half years in a colony-settlement, but in April the court of appeal changed the place of serving the sentence to a general regime colony.
