On November 16, the Mediazona publication published an article “The invisible epidemic. As coronavirus walked according to the FSIN system - the study of the "zone of law". " It told how Koronavirus in 2020 spread in Russian prisons. The publication was prepared on the basis of open data, information of human rights activists and sources of Mediazone. Journalists came to the conclusion that there can be much more than 1,600 people, which the FSIN stated .
The text said that the first cases of the disease were recorded in March-after the prisoners were transferred from Moscow and St. Petersburg. At the end of April, patients with coronavirus were already in colonies throughout Russia-that is, the infection could spread to penitentiary institutions because of the FSIN itself.
In addition, the publication reported that at least eight prisoners could die from Covid. The FSIN officially spoke of one deceased - enclosed in the Sverdlovsk region.
On December 8, Roskomnadzor demanded that the Mediazone delete the material and threatened the site with blocking if this was not done. The department believes that the text contains "inaccurate socially significant information distributed under the guise of reliable messages." At the same time, Roskomnadzor did not specify which information he considers false.
"Mediazona" deleted the text and changed its title. Now the material is called this: “Invisible [Roskomnadzor]. How [Roskomnadzor] walked according to the system of [Roskomnadzor] - the study of the "zone of law". " The publication sued the Prosecutor General and Roskomnadzor for the requirement to remove the publication.
