Kaliningrad: The jury justified doctors in the murder of the child
In Kaliningrad, the jury acquitted neonatologist Elin Sushkevich and the head physician of the maternity hospital Elena Bely, the correspondent of the North Realia reports. It follows from the verdict that the fault of doctors in the murder of a newborn child has not been proven.
The decision was not unanimous. Three of the eight jury considered the doctors guilty.
In the last word, Elina Sushkevich and Elena Belaya said they denied guilt.
- According to investigators, the head physician of the maternity hospital Elena Belaya decided to kill the newborn, and the resuscient-anesthetist of the regional perinatal center Elina Sushkevich introduced the child a deadly dose of magnesium.
- At the end of November, about 1.5 thousand doctors of twenty Russian regions signed under the appeal of the President of Russia in support of a neonatologist Elina Sushkevich. The text of the circulation was posted on social networks. Its authors compared the case Sushkevich and Belaya with the “Doctors' Affairs” of 1953. They also recalled resonant medical matters - hematologist Elena Misyurina, pediatrician Lyubov Yarovikova, head physician of the maternity hospital Marina Sarmosyan.
- In support of Sushkevich and Belaya, a petition was created on the Internet in which doctors and parents demand to stop the persecution. The petition scored over 247 thousand signatures.
- The court rejected participation in the process of most experts from the defense. The leading doctors of Russia at a press conference said that they consider Sushkevich and white innocent.
