People's Artist of the RSFSR Valentin Gaft died on Saturday in Moscow at the 86th year of life. This was announced by the Contemporary Theater and confirmed TASS by his wife Olga Ostroumova.
Gaft graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School in 1957, served in the Mossovet Theater, at the Moscow Drama Theater, in Lenkom, and since 1969 he performed on the stage of “Contemporary”, was considered one of the leading artists of the troupe. He played in the most famous productions of the theater.
He was known to the general public from his roles in the cinema-for example, by the role of the chairman of the garage-building cooperative Sidorkin in the comedy "Garage" Eldar Ryazanov. In total, he starred in 179 films, including in the "sorcerers" Konstantin Bromberg, "A visit to the Minotaur" Eldor Urazbaev, "Attraction" by Anton Azarov.
In 2014, the signature of Gaft appeared under the appeal of Russian actors who opposed the Russian policy in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea, which was published on Facebook by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Mustafa Nayyem. Later, in an interview with the Ukrainian publication, Gordon Gaft said that he considers Crimea to be Russian territory and "believes in Russia and its ruler."
