The head of the Karelian Memorial, historian Yuri Dmitriev became the laureate of the Franco-German Prize "For Human Rights and the Supreme of Law." This was reported by the international "memorial".

The Prize was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France and Germany. It is awarded annually for contribution to the defense and promotion of human rights in its country and at the international level. In 2020, lawyers, human rights activists, public figures and civil activists from Lebanon, Egypt, South Sudan, Angola, China, Slovakia and other countries also became laureates of the award.

“For almost 30 years, Dmitriev has compiled a list of 40,000 names of people executed or deported during great terror, and also discovered historical mass graves in Sandarmokh, Red Bor and in the Solovetsky Islands,” the Prize website says .

In the Petrozavodsk city, the third trial of Dmitriev began. The historian is accused of the manufacture of children's pornography, depraved actions regarding a minor and storage of weapons. On December 17, the next meeting in the case should be held. Dmitriev is under arrest.
At the end of July, the court sentenced the historian Yuri Dmitriev to 3.5 years in the colony on charges of sexual violence against the adopted daughter. Dmitriev did not admit his guilt.
On September 29, in the Supreme Court of Karelia, Judge Alla Rats tightened the punishment for the historian: the term of imprisonment was changed for 13 years of maximum security. The European Union demanded that Dmitriev be liberated. The EU believes that a criminal case against a historian is connected with his human rights activities.
