The European Commission added VKontakte and Telegram to the “List of observation of counterfeit and piracy”. The corresponding document dated December 14 is published on the website of the department.
The list includes online resources, without the permission of copyright holders providing access to music, films and other content protected by copyright. Russian platforms were on the list due to complaints about the content posted there. The copyright holders believe that a large number of pirate content are placed on VKontakte, and Telegram does not always react to claims.
The document also says that VKontakte and Telegram protested against inclusion in the list and announced the fight against pirate content. The platforms claim that they try to remove it within a day after the complaint.
The list also includes other popular Russian resources - for example, Rutracker and SeasonVar.
