Bloomberg: At least three US states have become the target of Russian hackers

At least three US states have been cyberattacked by Russian hackers, which has affected several US federal agencies. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the investigation. Which states are in question is not specified.

The US Cybersecurity Agency reported on December 17 that the hackers carried out their attack in a complex, knowledge-intensive manner. According to the agency, the hackers used the SolarWinds platform for illegal access, as well as other access points that the department did not disclose.

US President-elect Joe Biden said on the same day that the hack could potentially affect "thousands of victims, including American companies and state federal agencies." Biden noted that cybersecurity will be one of the priorities of his administration.

The Washington Post previously reported that the Cozy Bear group (also known as APT29), which is associated with Russian intelligence services, is behind the cyber attack. The target of the attack, in particular, was the Pentagon, the State Department, the Treasury Department and the Department of Commerce.
