The Ministry of Justice of Yakutia began an inspection of a human rights organization that fights corruption

The Department of the Ministry of Justice in Yakutia began an unscheduled inspection of the public organization “Yakutia - Our Opinion,” which is engaged in human rights and anti-corruption activities. The head of the organization, Stepan Petrov, told OVD-Info about this.

According to him, the inspection began at the initiative of the local Ministry of Internal Affairs on December 1. It should be completed by December 21. Petrov connects the inspection with an investigation into corruption among senior officials in Yakutia, which he published on November 29. Stepan suggests that the audit could lead to the liquidation of the organization.

“Yakutia – Our Opinion” has existed for more than 10 years. Since 2012, the organization has been advising the UN.

“I maintain political neutrality. Sometimes I criticize the actions and decisions of government bodies. But this is constructive criticism: I propose legal ways to solve problems,” Petrov said about his work in the organization.

At the end of November, unscheduled inspections of HIV service organizations that run programs to help people with chemical dependency began in Russia.
