The Prosecutor General's Office has recognized the Prague Center for Civil Society as an undesirable organization

The Prosecutor General's Office recognized the Prague Center for Civil Society as an undesirable organization. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the department.

“Based on the results of the study of the materials received, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation decided to recognize the activities of the foreign non-governmental organization Prague Civil Society Center (Prague Center for Civil Society, Prague Civil Society Center) (Czech Republic) as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation,” said a representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office .

The center's website states that the organization "empowers civic groups and independent journalists to connect with their communities, reach new audiences, and build their resilience." One of the activities of the Prague Center is the provision of grants for the creation and development of civil projects, as well as independent media. The center organizes various courses and master classes, for example, one of the latest on creating podcasts and launching fundraising campaigns.

The Prosecutor General's Office stressed that it considers the Prague Center a threat to "the foundations of the constitutional order and security" of Russia.

• Recognition as an undesirable organization is one of the types of pressure from the Russian authorities on non-profit projects interested in the development of civil society in the country. So, in April 2017, the Prosecutor General's Office declared undesirable several organizations associated with Mikhail Khodorkovsky, registered in the UK and the USA. The Russian movement "Open Russia" was not banned. Despite this, administrative and criminal cases are regularly brought against its activists for participation in the activities of an undesirable organization. On March 30, 2019, Open Russia declared self-liquidation for security reasons.
