The US Congress agreed on a new plan to support the economy for $900 billion in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, writes Bloomberg, citing lawmakers. It is the second-largest stimulus package in the country's history, second only to the $2 trillion spring round.
The new plan will pay $600 directly to most Americans and add $300 to weekly unemployment benefits through March. It was decided to extend the assistance program for the unemployed and some other categories of citizens, which is expiring.
In addition, $ 284 billion will be directed to loans for small businesses. The additional funding will go to the transportation industry, including airlines, schools and universities, the vaccine delivery chain, and food aid.
The final vote in Congress will take place on Monday. The new package will be a solid addition to the bill to fund the work of the federal government in fiscal year 2021, which begins in the United States on October 1. Public administration spending is planned at $1.4 trillion.
Initially, the new aid package provided for funding of $2 trillion, but was cut by the Republicans by more than half. Immediately after the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, the new administration will have to start negotiating a new package, Bloomberg notes.
