Putin signed the law on ex-presidents to become lifelong senators

Vladimir Putin signed the law on the updated form of the formation of the upper house of the parliament, which provides for the appearance of lifelong senators there. The document is published on the portal of legal information.

Now, in addition to representatives from the legislative and executive authorities of the subject, the ex-presidents of the Russian Federation, becoming lifelong senators, and no more than 30 representatives of the Russian Federation appointed by the President, of which no more than seven can be appointed lifelong life, will be able to be included in the composition. The term of office of other representatives will be six years.

The law states that the appointment of senators is the right of the head of state, but not an obligation - the president will be able to use it at his discretion at any time. Citizens who "have outstanding merits to the country in the field of state and public activities, can apply for the post of lifelong senators.

The document also states that persons who had a criminal record for a number of moderate crimes will not be able to become senators. Earlier, the law spoke only about serious or especially serious crimes.
