In the Tambov region, security forces conducted searches in the houses of Jehovah's Witnesses

In the Tambov region, the Investigative Committee conducted searches in the homes of at least two followers of the Jehovah's Witnesses, an extremist organization banned in Russia. This was reported on the website of the regional department of the department.

During the searches, the security forces seized electronic media, leaflets, religious literature and other items. The IC also interrogates witnesses.

Two followers aged 56 and 27 are suspects in the case of organizing the activities of an extremist organization (part 1 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code). The investigation believes that, knowing about the ban on Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia, they took actions to continue its activities. In particular, according to the Investigative Committee, the suspects called meetings, distributed extremist literature and collected money under the guise of donations.

Persecution of believers of the Jehovah's Witnesses began in 2017 after the decision of the Supreme Court to recognize this organization as extremist. Since then, criminal cases have been regularly brought against her followers, and searches have been carried out in their homes. Some received real terms.
